Jinsei: Half-price rolls on Sundays

In my book, the only thing better than great sushi is great cheap sushi. I’ve received word from reliable sources that Jinsei is offering rolls at half price Sunday evenings. You can bet I’ll be going in tonight to check it out. If this is indeed true, that sushi had better watch out.

This is, I imagine, part of our local chefs and restaurateurs’ plans to weather the recession. I would gladly take 1/2 price rolls one day a week over reducing hours a la Urban Standard (now open until 6pm Monday through Saturday, down from a 10pm close Thursday through Saturday. Bummer.)

For those of you who haven’t yet been, it’s really a fantastic place. The chefs were trained by¬† Nobu and it’s received love from national outlets like Food & Wine and Gayot (and some ordinary people).

I’ll expect a full report … if they truly do have half-price rolls on Sunday nights, you better believe I’ll round up a post-church dinner crew.

Keep in mind that it’s also a way for seafood restaurants to move day-old fish (or two days old). Kinda like discount midnight sushi.

Restaurants don’t typically get shipments in on Sundays and Mondays (depending on their schedules and the vendors’ skeds). Anthony Bourdain said to eat seafood at restaurants on Tuesday (and in general, when the staff was rested and ready to go) but not necessarily for Sunday brunch.

Very good point. I’ll ask my server how often their shipments come in (though I expect the standard ‘we get our fish fresh every day’).

    So, what’s the verdict?

  5. Dan says:

Nothing to report, sadly. I wasn’t able to get there. Perhaps next weekend.
